This Zen-style garden was elevated by integrating existing strengths with a thoughtful new feature. A mature Japanese maple, sculptural olive tree, and soft mounds of mondo grass provided the foundation for a peaceful space, with a deck flanked by a vibrant, butterfly-attracting wall of passion vine. The project addressed a problem area in the back corner, where an unruly thicket of spent bamboo had compromised the aesthetic. To uphold the garden's privacy and serenity, we installed a more manageable, clumping bamboo variety within large Corten steel containers. These containers were strategically chosen to develop a natural, rust-colored patina over time, complementing the garden's organic palette. The project was completed by re-graveling the flagstone path, unifying the entire space.
