A couple with a toddler and a rambunctious corgi needed their Oakland backyard transformed into a more functional, family-friendly space. The design centered on preserving and enhancing the yard's existing assets. A long sitting bench was tucked under the natural canopy of an enormous clumping bamboo, while a productive Meyer lemon tree nearby deserved to be featured more prominently. An ornamental cherry tree continues to shade a pathway, complementing a shed unit used as a home office. Small boulders and remnant flagstone were salvaged from the original yard and repurposed to expand the main patio and create edging for new planting beds. A re-leveled flagstone path now leads seamlessly to the expanded outdoor living area, creating a beautiful and functional space for everyone to enjoy.
